Clown violence

Cia La Tal's street theatre piece we see here  is purposly refering to a tradition that no longer exits as such, in stead of trying to be contemporary clown.
They make me laugh with their feet on fire and their throwing the ball and water in the other persons face. Is it nice what they do to each other? No, they're not very 'nice' clowns as we prefer clowns to be today.

But hey, when you're hanging out with your grotesque clown friends you expect that you get your fingers burned and  thrown some water over you so there is no need to feel offended. I find their way of playing soccer less scary than the mainstream version of the game.

Let's not forget the joy in being a bit destructive, over the top or shake things op a little.

Did our clowning become too 'nice'?

  1. This lovely. Great street theatre resonating with all the crazy slapstick I grew up with as a kid. Bravo gentlemen ... o.k. maybe not gentle but bravo you clowns. Thank you for sharing.

  2. I think the major population of Clowns entered the artform to create the opposites of hate and violence. But I truly love this video and the genius clowns in it.

  3. This is a great video. Does this video show all the violence? I would love to see a full version of this without the edits.
